1. My experiences in English classes throughout middle school were relatively easy for me. I felt I had a natural ability to recognize and practice grammar rules and write fluidly. Entering high school, the English began to get tougher as I struggled through Mr. Hill’s class. I learned however that in order for this English to come easier to me, I must apply myself and do the work. As time progressed, I gained more of an appreciation for the English language and for writing in general. Looking back on an essay and being proud of the work is one of the best feelings to me as a student. I hope to expand my ability to write and comprehend English going forward.
2. I do enjoy reading for the most part, but certain assignments where reading is required and the material is dull makes it hard to read. Whenever I had free time as a kid, I would really get enthralled by certain types of books, and I found it hard for me to put them down when I was on a roll. My school also had designated times to read books that the student could choose. Even though I never told any of my friends, I really enjoyed this small time to read because it was just a break to be with myself and helped take me to a different place. It’s hard to read for fun now, but I hope that if I get more free time after I’m finished with school, then I will start to enjoy reading more like I did when I was younger.
3. I hope that, like I stated above, to regain the love I once had for reading for enjoyment. I also am a slower reader, and standardized test and even everyday life has situations where quicker readers are given an advantage. Just getting a broad sense of how modern authors write would be very useful because I consider myself a good writer. I could make myself an even better writer if I model myself after these writer’s tendencies. Also, I was just hoping to get a fun experience out of studying literature for once.
I agree it feels like the older and further through school you get the harder it becomes to read for fun.
ReplyDeleteI agree that I want to learn how to love reading again and understand what you mean about how the faster reader has an advantage.
ReplyDeleteHey Griffin,
ReplyDeleteI'm excited that you chose to take this course this semester. It's nice to see that your arch as a student has only improved. You must be working hard! While you may not have gotten to choose the books in this course yourself, I think they would be books you'd pick up for fun if you had the chance. Hopefully, reading these books is just as fun as middle school and you get back that reading spark.
